Protect yourself against identity theft, phishing emails, infected websites, and more
Avast Internet Security 2016 is one of the leading solutions for online protection. The Avast name has been popular for a very long time and the latest updates bring it fully in line with all the tools offered by the major antivirus packages, yet without the same system takeover that reduces performance and causes more problems than it solves.
The latest update, Nitro, even adds a dedicated browser to go alongside a silent firewall providing protection against phishing and identity theft.
A dedicated browser and much more besides
With the new Nitro update, Avast Internet Security 2016 has a powerful new weapon- the SafeZone browser. This is a dedicated antiviral browser, perfect for those times that you need to be extra certain of your machine’s safety on a suspicious site, or when handling some internet banking, which is covered by a special Banking Mode.
Billed as the safest browser in the world, this tool has an ad-blocker function and a video downloader to let you watch videos offline at your convenience.
The new CyberCapture feature will help by catching and scanning unknown files downloaded to your machine. There’s much more too, from Secure DNS to encrypt your connection to a Browser Cleanup feature that removes those frustrating unwanted toolbars and add-ons.
Last but not least, the Sandbox lets you view programs and websites in isolation, so even if they are infected it won’t reach your computer.
An eye for accessibility
The latest update to Avast Internet Security 2016 has also made improvements to the programme’s usability.
The software has a sleek look, a bold orange color scheme and it fits nicely with Windows 10’s appearance. Thankfully, Avast is also not too intrusive, though it does interfere more than past versions. This is understandable however, since it is protecting your PC all of the time, live.
One of the good things about Avast is that much of it is modular and things like antispam are optional. Just disable what you don’t need or simply let it tick away in the background.
Most settings can be handled with a few clicks of clearly labelled buttons. Advanced users may find it a little ‘dumbed down’, but the idea is to be accessible to most people. The advanced tools can still be found easily in settings menus.
Protection, tools and flexibility
Avast Internet Security 2016 is one of the higher tiered versions of this software, but you do get more features as a result. You can always upgrade or downgrade to other Avast versions, but you’ll miss out on Secure DNS, anti-spam and the firewall if you go back to basics.
